While we work very hard to prevent the need for extractions, there are times that an extraction is the right treatment for our patient.
Why might a child’s tooth need to be extracted?
- A baby tooth may have such long roots that it does not fall out on schedule and prevents a permanent tooth from erupting on time and in the right place.
- A baby tooth may become infected and need removal to prevent infection from spreading.
- A wisdom tooth may not have room to erupt into the right position or it may be embedded in bone.
- The teeth may be crowded and crooked because they are too large for the jaw. For orthodontic treatment to succeed, some teeth may need to be removed.
