Sleep-Disordered Breathing

What is “sleep-disordered breathing?” It’s an all-inclusive term for breathing difficulties experienced while sleeping. It could be that a child snores or that they stop breathing temporarily which causes their blood oxygenation to fall. When this condition is severe, it’s called “sleep apnea.”

More children suffer from this problem than most people realize. A parent may watch a child with sleep-disordered breathing and simply think they are restless or that they just breathe through their mouth during sleep or that they snore. They may notice that the child’s breathing pauses, that the child chokes occasionally or that they are sweating.
